Read Any Good Books Lately?

Inside his apartment the first thing he notices is the darkness. Chip had become a complete exhibitionist in Manhattan and never closed the curtains, often fucked his tricks up against the window to the delight of the old faggots across the way. Chip blinks in the muted light, confronts the memory of the reddish hue of Tommie Deerhart’s cheeks, a flashlight shoved in his mouth like some grade-school dildo.

The second thing he notices is the semicircle of men—various ages, sizes and ethnicities—standing in his living room. They are naked save white jockstraps and combat boots; they smile at Chip as if they were all in on a joke that he’d never heard. The door slams shut behind him as he stumbles into the darkened room. “What the fuck?” Wilde, short and strong, slips up behind Chip, pulls his arms behind his back and loops his wrists and ankles together with leather straps.

A man moves forward, a skinny guy with a mature paunch, gray hairs swirling down to the black hole of his belly button. “Nathan Lawrence,” he states in the official voice of a summons, “this is a literary intervention.” Four of the men war-whoop as Wilde pushes Chip into the center of the room.
